SISTEM PENDIDIKAN DASAR DAN MENENGAH SERTA PERBANDINGAN PELAJARAN IPS DI NEW SOUTH WALES AUSTRALIA

A. Pengantar Penyelenggaraan pendidikan di Australia ditangani oleh pemerintah negara bagian masingmasing atau setingkat dengan propinsi. Tingkatan pendidikan dan kurikulum dan praktik-praktik pendidikan di sekolah selalu berbeda-beda tergantung pada negara bagian yang bersangkutan. Demikian juga institusi pendidikan yang tidak dibawahi oleh Departemen Pendidikan Pemerintah cenderung berbeda dengan sekolah-sekolah negeri milik negara. Sekolah-sekolah negeri milik setingkat dengan SD disebut Public School dan sekolah menengah disebut High School. Sekolahsekolah diluar institusi pemerintah disebut Private School atau independent school. Tingkatan pendidikan di New South Wales dapat dirinci sebagai berikut: Child Care (Penitipan Anak); Pre School (Pra Sekolah); Primary School (Kindergarten - Year 6); High School (Year 7 -12); Vocational Education (Pendidikan Pelatihan); Higher / Tertiary Education (Perguruan Tinggi).
